[I've copied many quotes from my personal mail, the AOL folder, and rec.music.christian on internet here. It's obvious that as the ministry increases into the general public, prayer will be the single most important factor, so please help them by praying! :) The reason I've copied all the messages below is because some make great points and also, those of you in the listed areas can call and request it! -Ed.]

I heard something interesting from one of my High Schoolers this morning (in Sunday School). She listens to the local secular alternative/grunge station (in Seattle, Wa) called 107.7--The End! It is a pretty harsh station, playing the dirtiest, meanest stuff around. (I must admit--3 minutes of most of that stuff and I am ready to torture small animals with sharp instruments.) Anyway, she was excited because she had heard Jars of Clay played quite a bit on this station. She also said their song "Flood" had been voted number four on the Friday night "People's Choice" poll.

Jars of Clay has also been played on one of Boulder's secular alternative stations, KTCL.

I am from Minneapolis, one of those test markets, and I just heard "flood" on Citie's 97, an AAA station here, and I called about it, and then I heard it again today. The DJ's sounded pretty excited too. I also work at a Best Buy in the music department, and people have been asking about them, but we only order two copied of the album at a time, so hopefully we can get more in. Pretty fun.

Greetings from Seattle! Yes it's true JOC has been in the top 5 requested songs of the day on 107.7 KNDD for several weeks! The station runs promo spots on how they "discover new bands" and list JOC as one of those bands! It made me laugh when I first heard it, they are just learning what we've known all along! I even called the station to see what they said about the band and the answer I got was, "well, they're a Christian band and we all think they are incredible! we just really like their stuff and promise you'll be hearing more of them!" so, keep up the good work boys! needless to say I think your Seattle show in March will be sold out. You are paving the way. Maybe in the midst of all of their "discovery" the non-Christian world will "discover" the Savior. I'll keep praying!

You'll all be happy to hear that Jars Of Clay are now being played on secular alternative radio stations now all over the country. Just saw three adds last week for "Flood" on the R&R Hot Fax, and I know for a fact that another dozen will be adding them next week. 100.5 The Zone, here in Sacramento, has added them. They featured the song last Tuesday night, and they got tons of calls for the song, Amen! If CCM stations don't have the guts to play them, then let it be the alternative stations.

Well, I've not actually heard it, but I have it on good authority that both Jesus Freak and something by Jars of Clay have both found their way on to CFNY 102.1 in Toronto. That'd be the big (only actually, but large nonetheless) alternative station in Toronto.

I just heard on Richmond's "modern rock": "And here's Jars of Clay from their brand new CD of the same name. This one's called Flood. 'Out of the Box' on WVGO." Keep up the good work. I think you can have a significant impact on our poor world.

And finally, I wanted to thank you all for your continued prayers for the guys. God is using them in some very amazing ways. I think I wrote a while back about Brentwood Music's mainstream owner Zomba Records, and their desire to make Jars available to the mainstream market. They came to us!! They're putting this CD out with only one change - it has a tiny new logo on the back for the mainstream label Silvertone. Silvertone recently invited them to headline their national showcase for new artists in New Orleans, and they played today!! You're already beginning to hear reports of "Flood" being played on mainstream stations, and let me tell you, it's being well received. We've been told that it's in the Top 10 most requested songs in Seattle right now, and is in heavy rotation there, as well as in Minneapolis, Denver and Los Angeles (there are more, but I forget right now...sorry!) This is a big step, because these are the test markets for the nation. If these stations like a song (and they do like "Flood") then they play it. The smaller markets around the country watch these big guys, and do what they do. In addition, MTV and VH1 have agreed to air the video after seeing radio's response - I think it begins January 22! The result? Millions of non-Christian people are going to hear this song and it's message. Hopefully they'll be encouraged to buy the album, and get the opportunity to be exposed to God's truths that we've all embraced though these songs. WOW. God is amazing. Please pray that these guys (and us as a record company) can keep their focus...and that their hearts will continue to desire nothing but to further the message of the Grace of God. Please pray for each person at Zomba Records, that hearts there may be touched through relationships with their Christian business partners. And pray for the millions...God is sovereign! *CD-Rom News & Frail:

For those who don't know, Frail is the 9 song demo recorded and produced by the Jars guys in early 1994 at Greenville College. It had original versions of Love Song for a Savior, He, Art in Me, Like a Child, Boy on a String (subtitled the "Sunflower Song"), Four Seven and Liquid. Also, there were two you may not know yet - Fade to Grey (expect a new arrangement of this on their next album) and the title cut "Frail", which is actually an instrumental studio project that Steve recorded. They only made1500 and that is what got them quick attention from record labels here in Nashville. Those who were lucky enough to see the guys play before June or July of 1995 may have picked up a copy at the show...if not, you'll have a very tough time. I was just told today about a Christian Novelties distributor that acquired 2 copies, and sold them for $500 each. I cannot verify that at all...but that's a good example of supply & demand forcing prices up, don't you think? All is not lost for those of you who want to hear these songs! Which leads me to my second topic - the CDROM. It is phenomenal. You'll be blown away! Over two hours of fully interactive material...including everything from the "Flood" video to live concert and backstage footage to personal interviews to snapshots to downloadable screensavers to...seven songs (of 9 total) from Frail,in their entirety, as originally recorded! I was happy to find this out too. :) It'll begin shipping from our warehouse on January 17, so as long as your store has ordered it before then it'll probably be in by Monday the 22 (give or take - UPS is slower to the West Coast). Go ask for it now - many stores are ran by people who may not be as into computers as we are - and they're not convinced there's a market for the CDROM (hah). Help us let them know!

*Copies of "Frail" demo for auction:

Well, folks, we've uncovered not one but *two* sealed copies of the original Jars demo cd, Frail, to blindly auction off. It was decided that all proceeds would go towards helping pay for the newsletter & possibly web site (these things take a LOT of time and money and aren't being funded yet) for the past year and the coming year. Now, we're *not* expecting $500 per copy by any means (as Chad mentioned above) but will ask for a minimum donation of $20. Please remember that most of the cd will be on the cd-rom available soon, except for "Fade to Grey" and the instrumental "Frail". To participate, simply email your exact bid to me, earthpots@aol.com, by 1/31/96. If you don't hear back, then someone else bid a higher amount. You can re-bid once only after 1/31/96 if you don't hear back from me, but may ask at any time what the two largest bids are. The more funds this pulls in, the more we will do with the newsletter/web site in the future. We will probably include audio/video at the web site soon, and other possibilities include transferring the newsletter through Adobe Acrobat and including color pictures, etc. All you'd have to do is download a small program to decode them and make for a readable, color newsletter with icons to click and everything! *Concert Review Medley:

[I have info on three big concerts that the guys have put on in the last month, and wanted to tell a little about each of them, so here's a "medley" of reviews! :) -Ed.]

Kansas State University 12/3/95: I wanted to let you all in on how the last show went, the show that wrapped up the PFR tour. I wasn't at this show, but heard all about it and saw a tape of what went on. I'm including this because it's funny but also because it shows how human the guys are. I would challenge you all to look at them as friends and not idols. Here's what happened! To begin with, the setlist was quite funky. They played He, Fade to Grey, Liquid, Good Coffee, Strong Coffee, Drummer Boy and Flood. PFR's lighting person even asked permission to use the better light setup for Flood. While PFR played, Jars played lots of pranks, since it was the last night - Steve dressed up in tons of lights (attached to an extension cord) and walked out to hang decorations on the lit Christmas tree which was lowered from the ceiling down onto Mark's drum set. Three times during the show, Jars ran out and did crazy '80's dances and Scott even did a big bellyflop in the middle of the stage. Steve and Scott also climbed under the drums and made faces in front of their flashlights for the audience while PFR was left clueless as to what people were laughing and pointing at. Hope you've enjoyed these anecdotes, maybe some of the musicians who subscribe could use these sometime! The guys are very glad to be back home and only have three shows before Christmas. One in Alabama (they were supposed to open for Dan Quayle but he cancelled his speech) and two special nights in Nashville. They extend their heartfelt thanks to all of you for your support of the ministry through prayer and encouragement, and hope to meet the rest of you on the next tour with MWS.

12/10/95 Jars & Friends Benefit show, The Foundry, Nashville, TN: 600 people were crammed into a room that is only supposed to contain 400...(don't tell that we broke firecodes!) A check for $7,000 was presented during mid-show to the Child Abuse Prevention Center of Middle Tennessee! The celebration included guest performers Cindy Morgan and Phil Keaggy. Jars began with introducing the Child Abuse Prevention Center, then played a new Christmas novelty tune, "Kiss Me Slow" (Beneath the Mistletoe). They now have a bassist, and this was his "audition" with them. His name is Aaron Sands and he really has a heart for ministry like the guys do (and he fills out the sound well too!) From this they went into Good Coffee, Strong Coffee, then Like a Child/Boy on a String. Cindy then came out and did Sweet Days of Grace and a couple Christmas tunes and did she sound good! Phil Keaggy showed up just in time to perform True Believers, Real Life and a couple others before Jars finished their set. After Phil's astounding guitar work, they came back to play He (acoustic), O Little Town of Bethlehem (a very different arrangement), God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Little Drummer Boy (with an amazing improv vocal by Dan), and Silent Night with Phil and Cindy joining in to finish the night. Or so they (and we) thought! When the show was over their manager (thanks Rendy!) urged them to do "Flood" as an encore, although Aaron had never practiced the bass with them for it! It went over quite well, though they weren't planning on doing it. All in all, a great, worshipful night was had and a very worthy cause was helped.

12/16/95 Rocketown Christmas Party with Michael W. Smith: This show was also very special, the first show with Jars and Smitty. Sarah Jahn's band (from Greenville College) opened the show with a great performance, followed by Jars. The sound mix was strange for some reason but they sounded great, and did their Christmas tunes, Good coffee strong coffee, Flood, and ended with Four Seven. They enjoyed Smitty and it was apparent he enjoyed having them there, and he put on a great performance after them, with his amazing new band. His concert was shorter than expected but it was their first time playing for a crowd, and they still sounded great. The following morning they all flew out of Nashville for Christmas break.

She recently went to the doctor because of abdominal pains and they found a cyst on an ovary. The doctors say its nothing to worry about and at her age it can be easily removed. But please keep her in your prayers. (oh and she's a huge Jars "fan" too and has always helped me stay on the right track). In addition to my sister, please keep my great-grandmother in your prayers. She is home now, but she is recovering from a blood clot. She is such a wonderful person and our family Christmas' have always been blessed by her that she would be greatly missed. However, we understand that maybe God is calling her home so He too can enjoy her Joyous and Festive Spunk!

*Dove Awards and Grammy Nominations:

The latest news is that the guys have been nominated for six Dove Awards and one Grammy Award. The Grammy is called "Best new Christian Rock Album" and they're up against Petra and a few others. I don't think jars will be performing for the Grammy's (though they'll be in CA for them) but they will in Nashville for the Dove's. Please pray that the band who wins the Grammy will only win because it will help their ministry the most!
