This show was at a secular venue. The booklet showed that others like Cheryl Crow had played there over the course of the summer. I talked to a security guard and he said there were about 2,000 people in attendance which was normal for their venue. I went with a guy from work. He's been a Jars fan for quite a while and had seen them a few times before.

We were lucky enough to get meet & greet passes and this was the first time my friend ever got to meet them so he was excited (not that I wasn't also). There ended up only being four of us total which was super cool. I got more guts to ask and say more things than ever. Plus there was more time since there were so few of us. I'll try to remember everything that we talked about. I didn't think Dan's wife had had the baby. I asked how she was and he said she'd had the baby five days ago. I congratulated him and he said after the next day's show in Nashville he'd get a week to be with his family. Steve made a joke about how good Dan looked after going through the delivery. They all mentioned how they were tired because they caught a red-eye from Washington State that morning. Charlie commented that it poured while they were there and it was so beautiful in Ohio (and it was a perfect evening for an outdoor concert).

They started talking about the fall tour. Steve said they won't play "Faith Like a Child" because they're sick of it. I don't know if he was serious or not. Matt said they didn't play it on the spring tour. The other guys thought they did. I told them they opened with it and they all teased Matt and said he just hadn't woken up by then each night. I told them I'd seen them 8 times in the past year and they thanked me. Then they said the fall tour will be completely different from what I've been seeing. I asked Steve if he was going to pull out the electric again for the tour. He said no, but he might bring some other [different guitar equipment by name]. I just acted like I knew what he meant. Then he said he got a [insert year and model of what I think was an electric] and he wanted to bring it out eventually but won't be this fall. I asked them what the first single from the new album is going to be and they said "Show You Love" for one of the formats, I'm assuming it was the contemporary. They said it shipped and Matt said it'll be released to radio September 19.

I told Dan that I noticed that he got a new tan beanie hat. He said that he finally found them so he bought a bunch and wears a different one every night so they all smell the same. Then, I'd had a picture blown up into an 8x10 and I asked them to sign it. They all did and then Aaron just happened to walk up. I asked him to sign the picture even though he wasn't in it and told him how cool it was because I had all of their (Jars') autographs but never his. Now if I could get Joe to sign the picture that'd be the best. Next I got my picture taken with them and we said goodbye. As we went back to our lawn seats the security guard told us we weren't supposed to have cameras. I told him we just wanted them for the meet and greet and that we'd take them back to our car and re-enter. What I didn't tell him was that we smuggled them in our pockets in the first place. Oh well.

We were sitting right in the front and center of the lawn. It was pretty far away but still a good view. Sixpence was first. I've always liked them and this was my first time seeing them live. Leigh Nash definitely has a unique way of interacting with the crowd and says some strange things. But they were really good. Matt Slocum is an amazing guitarist. I love their song "Paralyzed" and they sang it last.

There was intermission, then Jars' intro music that kind of sounds like Jaws started. Except it played for at least five minutes and it changed in some parts which I thought was kind of funny. Then they came on the stage and Dan said "Just thought we'd play a few songs for you if that's all right". They played the pretty standard set they've been playing lately. Hardly anyone was standing, which I always hate, Dan kept saying things joking that we should stand. Finally, before I'm Alright he said it was the 7th inning stretch and everyone had to stand. At some point Steve started telling this weird story about passing out bland wafers and something else with a phone number to call if you get flu symptoms. I didn't get it at all but it was funny. Oh, and by the way, Dan wore that same old grey "star" shirt. I really love "Show You Love" and "Amazing Grace". I brought a printed version of the lyrics from the message board and read it during the verses, it was kind of like having a hymnal. For the first verse and chorus of "Love Song" Matt was tuning his guitar so it sounded funny with just Steve. Also, for the "On Jordan's Stormy Banks" bass solo, Aaron kept hitting his top string while tightening and loosening it to make it higher and lower. Dan's piece on AIDS in Africa with the young man he met over there is very moving. I sent in some petitions last month and want to get more involved with it.

All in all it was another great Jars' show. I hope to see them again soon.
