Album Review: White Elephant Sessions

by Michael Koby

Well, it's finally here. White Elephant Sessions!!! After much waiting by people on the Jars of Clay Message board at ccmusic.org and www.jarsworld.com, we finally have something we can croon over that we have wanted since Jars first release many of these songs, or played them at a show. Songs like Crazy Times, Collide and Headstrong stand out as being very different from the final products we know and love. The older version of Grace is a little unlike what Jars would normally do; the lyrics are definately Jars, but the music is a total new direction. Still, it's easy to see where the final version came from. Kaylos is funny and interesting; musicians having fun is always an experiance to listen to. And while they might not be "doing the New Math" they probably should have; it's style and feel would have fit in with Zoo and would have been a welcome addition. And Fly Farther is beautiful and sad that any girl will love it. Hopefully, with this release, fans and non-fans will get a better understanding of Jars as people and musicians. Fans will love hearing some of their favorite songs again for the first time. Hopefully, this will hold fans over until a 4th album can be written.
