Facing the Ugly in Africa

Music artists join Irish rocker to shake American apathy

Excerpt:
Lead singer Dan Haseltine is floored that Christians, who are commanded by Jesus to love others, close their eyes to how AIDS is ravaging the people of Africa and leaving thousands of children orphans.

"I pray that we would love people and that it would be reciprocated back to us later," says Haseltine. "But if we sit on our butts and ignore it and we take the stance that the people of Africa are reaping the benefits of their sin because it's a homosexual disease, it's ultimately detrimental to everybody."

Excerpt:
"It's a little bit of egg on the face with the Christian community because Christians, if anyone, are mandated to care for the widows and the orphans," explains Haseltine. "… When another Christian that's outside our realm of Christianity comes in and says, 'Look, we need to hold you to this because this is what God has called people to be and you're not being this,' it's even more potent than a non-Christian or a politician saying it."
